This past June, 2022, the CDC said we wouldn't need to get a special permit to re-enter the US:
I booked a great flight to the Dominican Flight on American Airlines via Miami but now the airline states all dogs who enter the DR are not allowed to renter the US even though the CDC guidelines are met.
Does anyone know of any US-based airline that do allow a small dog to travel with you both ways?
UPDATE June 10, 2022: Dogs vaccinated against rabies in the United States by a US-licensed veterinarian may re-enter the United States from a high-risk country without a CDC Dog Import Permit if the dog:
- Dogs vaccinated against rabies in the United States by a US-licensed veterinarian may re-enter the United States from a high-risk country without a CDC Dog Import Permit if the dog:
- has a current, valid US-issued rabies vaccination certificate;
- has proof of an ISO-compatible microchip;
- is at least 6 months old;
- is healthy upon arrival; and
- arrives at one of the 18 airports with a CDC quarantine station
