Punta Cana is the site for the largest event on technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain, Portugal and Cape Verde from 4 to 6 October 2023. In addition to the International Labor Organization (ILO), the event is hosted by the Technical Formation Institute (Infotep), the largest vocational training center in the Caribbean that is headquartered in Santo Domingo.
President Luis Abinader was present for the opening of the 46th Technical Committee Meeting of ILO/Cinterfor, on 4 October 2023 at the Hard Rock hotel & Casino in Punta Cana.
He highlighted that unemployment in the Dominican Republic is at a low 4.7%. He understands that 34% of the new jobs created were entry-level jobs for young people.
