When I flew back to NY from SD on jetBlue in May, there was free wifi all the way back to the US, which hadn't been the case before. United out of Newark never has it. My question is for those who use jetBlue: Is it always the case that free wifi is available on the flight?

Remember though, for most of the flight, wifi is not available as you traverse the body of water. Only when you get close to the coast and for me that starts around VA/NJ that one can use Wifi again.

What I mentioned is based out of my experience on Jetblue and I have been flying them going south several times for many years. The hook ups always work when you are close to/connected to land/coast and never over the water. Indeed the system advises you that Internet is not available and to watch the canned stuff they show on the screens. The system also tells you when the internet is back. Perhaps others have different experiences even my July flight had the same glitch, if you would.

I think that's right..... no internet offshore.... might be wrong

Movies 24/7.... not TV or internet.....my brain is old.....

I am right...
=============================================

Frequent flyers know that wireless service typically doesn't work at all over the ocean, which can be the majority of a flight. RouteHappy recently found that Wi-Fi speeds comparable to that of a home connection is available on only seven percent of flights worldwide.Jan 12, 2017

Let me rectify my earlier affirmations: it is absolutely correct that there is no Internet when one is off shore/coastlines. Not to South/Central America or to the EU across the pond. For all I care, to me that means, there is no wifi. It is quite different if you are flying to Singapore from say, Zurich - it is flight over landspace.
