Getting a dominican wife into the US

Yo so a friend of mine, she's a dominican, has found love! hehe with this guy from New York and they want to get married. But the things is its sounding rather complicated and expensive for some reason. What's the real deal with all this? If they get leagally married here shouldn't he be able to just take her into the country? Or...will she have to apply for a visa of some sort????? Please let me know guys!
