Hi there,

My fiance is a Costa rican national with dual nationality for Costa rica and Dominican Republic. She has a Fiance Visa and all the correct paper work to enter the UK for 6 months until we get married legally here.

I am flying there in December just for a wedding ceremony (nothing legal) and i want to return to the UK (Manchester) with her as she will be my wife then. I normally fly using Thomas cook or Thomson but they say they dont sell one way tickets. I asked if i could buy 2 full returns and she would just miss the first flight, but they say in that case they would cancel the return leg.

Is there anyway i can get to the DR, puerto plata, for one week, then return with my wife?
Im finding it difficult as British airways is super expensive 4k+. Thomson is cheap but cant seem to get any help from them and they wont do it.

Any ideas? pointers?

Thankyou
A

Going through the states, miami or new york, then goes via Dublin or Madrid respectively. 2 stops and prices are at least ?2000+ plus for both of us.

Just seems so frustrating, Thomson or Thomas Cook flights are ?400 - ?500 full returns.

Any other way puts ?1500 on the price

She's Costa Rican, doesnt need a visa, although we paid for a fiance one anyway so she could marry me in the UK. Travelling through the US isnt a problem. Its prices/stops/time.

Via US - ?750+, 2 stops+, 20 hours +

Direct - ?400+/-, no stops, 7 hours.

you have me so confused by your questions and statements, i dont know which end is up. lets try to sort things out--you say that you are flying into the dr in dec for a wedding ceremony that will be nothing legal and then she will be going to the uk with you as your wife (how is that possible if you werent legally married)? you also say that she can enter the uk for 6 months with her fiance visa but if you married legally here, the uk would recognize it and you would not have to get married there. to fly around the holidays, you should have some idea that it will be expensive (common sense) so come earlier in dec or wait until jan. you should also know, that a one way ticket is usually more expensive then a round trip so go back to t/cook and buy 2 round trips. the first for yourself (man--pop/sti--man) and then for the misses (pop/sti-man-pop/sti) make her outbound the same as yours and the return to the dr in june just in case her 6 months visa is up and she has to come back here. if she can stay in the uk, just tear up the ticket

Ok yes, I am flying to PP in December for a religious ceremony wedding. So my wife religiously, but not yet legally.

As for the Fiance Visa, the reason we are using that is so that when she comes to the UK, we can marry legally and apply for a settlement marriage Visa. Without the fiance visa, and if we married in the DR. She would have to stay and apply for that second marriage visa from her own country. So we had to do it this way :)

As for your round trip idea. it makes sense. but. They dont do round trips from POP MAN POP. Only MAN POP MAN. Also.
If i booked 2 round trips from the uk. and she missed the first and was to take the return. They automatically cancel the return if you miss the outbound. So cant do that either. :S

Anything i missed? Thanks Ricky.

What you want to do in flying one way from the DR to the UK appears to be difficult to impossible to do inexpensively. Do keep in mind that the longer you wait to book, the higher the prices are likely to get for the flights that you already found.

Yeah Im aware of that. So far i have 2 more options to explore.

1. Buy a flight direct from the desk at POP, which apparently they can do. But depends on the person, and has to be last minute.
2. Buy her a full return, and when she misses the outbound flight, call the desk at PP and advise them not to cancel and resell her inbound seat, as she will be on it.

i would not count on either of your 2 options to work

Option 1 is too last minute, so i doubt we'd try that.
and option 2, the return and telling them not to cancel the return leg. Id only go for this if i got some kind of official airline email confirming it can be done. I wouldn't do it from their advise at the pop desk.

Also, yes, her costa rican passport gives her entry into the eu and Germany

Im thinking more and more its going to be a return with THOMSON for me, and a one way via the states for here. :S
