It's been several years since I've played golf in the Dominican Republic.

I played regularly at Las Aromas in Santiago and Playa Dorada in Puerto Plata and occasionally at Playa Grande when that course was available.

At the time I played, Santiago was a reasonable price including a cart and a caddie was optional.

Playa Dorada was pricey even with a negotiated residents price. A caddie was also compulsory.

I would be grateful for info on current prices and course conditions etc. please.

Thank you.

Thanks, it was 2014 when I last played in DR, if I remember correctly it was the equivalent of 16 English pounds at Santiago. Good value I thought, course was well kept and greens good.

I negotiated 1500 pesos green fee at PD and a private deal with a regular caddie for another 1000.

The condition was rarely anything to gloat about so 1500 wasn’t too excessive.

It must be gold plated now to ask $125 …….

If you are a Dominican resident you can get a Golf Federation membership which lowers the green fee price. It costs $100 usd per year and to get it you must have a current cedula.
They are pretty strict now as to many tourists where buying them to save money.

I think they changed that. The most recent time I was in the Playa Dorada golf course was a few years ago to do a photo session to a friend of a cousin and a golfer was playing one of the holes near us. For a moment it appeared that he lost a club and even came up to us to ask about it. He did found it in the cart next to the other clubs andit look he was thanking God it wasn’t lost. lol I think the club wasn’t his and losing it meant paying for it. Some clubs can be quite pricey and that one was probably one of the best of the bunch. Anyway, I only remember seeing him cone up to us and around his cart which wasn’t far away, no caddy unless the caddy was near the hole instead of the fairway.

Also, I think the Playa Dorada course is included in the Fedogolf membership. People member of that get automatic discounts at any of the golf courses in their membership all over the DR once they show their membership card.

Members of the Playa Dorada club don't have to use a caddy.

I know MANY members of Fedogolf who do not have a cedula. Actually - when I asked about that at Hard Rock they scoffed at that requirement.
They didn't want to lose their MANY snowbird customers.

Come up to Jarabacoa, it’s a nice 9 hole course and pretty challenging.

I agree that many people without cedulas have a FEDO Membership. If you try to get one today they ask for a cedula #. In the past it wasn't that difficult but to many tourists where abusing the system. I have been at the Hardrock where someone showed their FEDO# and where asked for a cedula or proof of residency.

They could not provide it and the rate went from $70 to $180 each. The FEDO membership is a great way for expats to enjoy golf on some beautiful courses at a reasonable price. People will always try to cheat the system as they don't want to spend the money. I hope they get caught and kicked off the course.
To many entitled or cheap aholes ruin it for the rest of us.

As a side note, since covid pretty much every course in th PC area is sold to capacity in the busy season. Years ago you could just show up and be golfing in 30 minutes. Now it's book tee time or a really big propina for the club house and starter.
