I'm golfing in Jarabacoa in August and I'll be golfing with people that speak no English. I speak a little Spanish but I'm looking for typical golfing terms in Spanish or do they/you use english terms like par, boggie, tee box...etc.

Anybodythat golfs can speak a little English, Bob. Especially those guys in Jarabacoa. Like who? The Dilonex? Of course, they do.

Terms:

Missed Putt = Coño!
Green = El Grin -> pronounced Green!!
Putt = Un Putt

Drive= El Drive.-> pronounced el dry

Fairway = El Fairway-> pronounced fairwai

Iron = Hierro -> pronounced ee yeh rroh better if you can roll the "rrrs"

Wood = madera/ una madera tres (3 wood)

PW = Peachin' weh (No, bob, I am not kidding)
SW = San weh

Sand trap = bonker or trampa (Listen to ESPN in Spanish)

Par = par
Birdie = birdie
Bogie = bogie
Double bogie = doble bogie-> pronounced dough ble
Triple = triple -> pronounced tree ple

Green fee = green fee
Caddy = caddy
Tip = propina

Tee = Tee

Tee off = Tee off

Gimme a call and just maybe i can get up there. Love that course and they should have the greens all nice and fixed by then..

Too funny, I know i'll be golfing, if you call what I do golfing, with a guy named Punciano (spelling), who has a wall full of golf trophies.

great job HB!!!:squareeye , so authentic. other that come to mind with the same linguistic perversities:

fell in the rough -"cay? en el roff"

hooked ball - bola hookiada

"I sliced it" = La eslaici?

score - escor

strokes (or shots) - palos (o tiros)

I don't know why, but Golf Course is actually correct in Dominican Spanish as Campo de Golf, even if other Spanish-speaking peoples sometimes call it "cancha de golf" as if it were "Golf Court".

saludos,

Tordok

"mulligan" = moo lee gan..In England, they say "Hitting three, Sir."

You mean Ponciano!!! Great big fellah, very jovial. his brother is one of the better golfers up there. Ponciano is a good guy. I've played with him a few times. You'll have an enjoyable round, for sure. give me a ring, maybe we can hook up here in Santiago or up there inthe mountains....
