If I can tag a question on to this, I am travelling for business to Puerto Plata this week. Does anyone know of a good hotel in Puerto Plata city, not an all inclusive? I will only be there for a couple of days and want to be in the city.

Thanks

The RIU's are good they are just right out of town. There are three hotels in the RIU complex

Pepsi there are a Few good hotels in the city. Can't remember anynames at the moment thought. But there is a very nice one close to central park. You can always look into Samsbar for a night. Its only ten dollars a night and you could find yourself a room after a day or whatever. search the forums for sams bar if your interested.

All the all inclusives are more or less the same, that being said my favorite is the Coral Marien. Sun village is built into a mountain so be prepared to do some hiking from beach to your rooms. Lots and lots of stairs but it is very pretty.

Just to clarify:
Hotel Mountainview is an NON-AI in town, off the beach in the midst of the city.
This may be a place for "pepsi" to look at but probably NOT the place "nat2jr" and family dreams of spending their vacation at.

You crazy!!

Hotel Victoriano is not a place for a family to stay in. It is right in the midle of downtown Puerto Plata. There is a lot of crime in the area. You better off looking for another alternative.
