There is a very long thread about everything being shut down in Sosua but what we need is a thread about the good things that are happening in Sosua.
For the first time they have lined the palm trees along the first two blocks of Pedro Clisante. There was just recently a fitness event right on Pedro Clisante. If this is the direction that Sosua is going then I say bring it on!!!
For the haters, please avoid your negative comments, this thread should be just for the good stuff and anyone that has upcoming events should post on this too. I was having some drinks with some friends last night and all of us have lived on the North coast for a minimum of 15 years each, we have all had many drinks in all the places that have been closed down recently and in the past years but each one of us agreed that it is nice to see Sosua taking a stand and trying to attempt to clean this place up. When I showed them this video below their response was the same, bring it on! I am not sure how to just post the video so if someone else has the know how then please go ahead.

Bravo tee for posting, and bravo to the authorities and residents of Sosua. Community building events such as this for, "toda las familias de esta ciudad" are taking place in municipalities all across the RD. It is a very encouraging sign for the forward progress of Sosua.

I'll take a go at it:
1. That we are recycling a beautiful part of the country so that it might be enjoyed by a wider audience in the future/
2.I won't need to glance over a couple a hundred pages with the word "whore" or its' variations every day on this site.
3. We might put on the back burner for a while things "negative" about the DR. God knows we need it.
4. I won't need to scratch my head each day trying to understand why the development of the real estate won't work. Negative opinions I suppose that are totally self serving. Opinions I'm assuming are based on NO real estate development experience.
5. That I don't need to read another history lesson about prostitution.
6. That I don't need to listen to how we can empower women, raise their lifestyle, by being a prostitute.
7. Thanks for the new tread. Lets see how it goes.

The palm trees replaced the big beautiful trees that were there before, the trees that provided a lot of shade and hid the ugly wires. The fitness event is nothing new, it was held all the time in the park by the casino.

I wish they would go back to closing P.C. It was much quieter/peaceful. Get the dam motors off of it. Yea I know it takes away some parking but I'd be willing to park and walk.

Glad to see this happening! Arriving in January and will have friends visiting. While the “old PC” evoked shrugs and laughter, perhaps the new will be better, or at least calmer! Lol!

Perhaps with some urban development and adding a parking lot/garage, even remote with shuttle service, that whole area could become a pedestrian mall for entertainment, with a window of deliveries before 10am.

Took a chance today and bought a bunch of bananas from a girl with a bad back to lighten the load. Turns out you can give them away to kids and nobody threw them back at me. Going to take a chance and post this here.

I give Matteo the former owner of Midtown restaurant a lot of credit, despite the closing of the clubs on Pedro Clisante and despite the landlord of Midtown who is also the owner of Las Palmeras hotel screwing him out of $40K he reached down and grabbed his "you know whats" and bought the closed Britannia and refurbished the entire place, kudos to him and his future success.

To be honest I really don't have a problem with the parking situation. I can almost always find a spot around the park if heading down to the beach and if on the other side of PC central when necessary I just go up to David Stern make a left and there is always plenty of parking. I can see however is someone is very old or has difficulty walking even a few blocks could be a problem.

Matteo bought the place and was about finished with renovation before the downtown changes. I am not sure you can say he was screwed out of anything. I would not give him kudos for any of that, but I do wish him success.

Things to keep an eye on:

- Is Hilton really coming to Sosua?
- Will the family that owns the land behind the beach be building "three towers there"? The fence between the main road and that land is almost completed.
- Will Dream City break ground and do even a part of what they say they have planned?

Any or all of those things would be major developments for Sosua.

The next phase of the long game is for Dream City to get some model homes built and delineate the various community buildings. After that, we should see if the project goes the way of umpteen other proposed developments. I wish them well but I'm not holding my breath and I'm certainly not sinking any money into the concept.

Was just in New York for a few weeks. Returned here yesterday. Two observations:

1. The airport at Puerto Plata was as crowded with arriving passengers as I have ever seen it. I hope that portends a busy winter season (I’ll post the “negatives” of the experience in the other thread).

2. We had dinner last night at Nelson’s Bistro (directly across the street from Super Pola). Always good food and pleasant service there. Even with almost all the tables occupied (at 8pm on a Saturday night). They have also expanded their children’s playground area. Two large jungle gyms, swings and slides, and a kids trampoline. And it was being put to good use. There must have been 20-25 kids having a great time there while their parents enjoyed dinner and drinks. And from the looks and languages heard among the children, they appeared to be a mix of both locals, and tourists.
Again, I believe that portends well for the winter season.

I’ve never had a problem with Sosua. I make frequent visits to Sosua to visit friends, enjoy the bars, the music scene, the restaurants, and shop at the supermercados. My friends who rent their long term enjoy the same things I do. If I have Canadian friends visiting the DR, I always include Sosua when I take them on road tours of the North Coast. I keep an eye on real estate and would seriously consider purchasing property in Sosua if the price was right.

Dream city sent me a message a while back that they are waiting for their development/building plans to be approved, but I am sure there is a lot more to that. With the changes that have happened, I hope too that these major developments start. It will change the face of the area from a little quiet town to a more modern bustling city. Not sure if the long time residents here will like that but its progress. it seems that tourism is very active in organizing the area for future development and tourism activity. We are entering a positive transition period I hope, or else Sosua will suffer or decline... the next year or so will be crucial, imho.
