This fruit has me quite confused. The dictionary says its Passion Fruit but in that case what is Chinola? What do you do wih a granadilla, squeeze it, eat it raw, cook it or just look at it until it rots?

I think the dictionary is wrong as far as DR is concerned, a granadillo is much larger, shiny, has lots of pulp, and it's usually used to blend/mix into a batida. Tree is native to the Caribbean. Very popular in SD drinks.

They use the wood of the tree to make musical instruments.

Look here to see photos of lots of DR fruits, including passion fruit/chinola and granadillo:
Dominican Republic: fruit

If I'm not mistaken, some South American countries call passion fruit grandadillo, which might be why your dictionary says that.

Last trip to DR [January] my husband bought a bunch of nispero from a guy selling them on the street, I'd never had them before. Not bad!!!! We looked for more later on....
