The 2024 hurricane season made its entry with gray skies and torrential rains on Sunday, 2 June in the afternoon. More rains are forecast for the first week in June. The Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from 1 June to 30 November.
The hurricane names for 2024 are Alberto, Beryl, Chris, Debby, Ernesto, Francine, Gordon, Helene, Isaac, Joyce, Kirk, Leslie, Milton, Nadine, Oscar, Patty, Rafael, Sara, Tony, Valerie and William. If there are more than these 21 named storms, the additional hurricanes are named according to an alternate list of names provided by the World Meteorological Organization.
Many names, such as David (1979), Federico (1979), Hortense (1996), Georges (1998) and others that have impacted large parts of the Dominican Republic have been removed from the hurricane name list. As every year, the authorities are telling people to get bad storm preparations in place...
