Haiti’s government directly accused the Dominican Republic, the United States, and Colombia for exacerbating its internal security crisis, alleging that these nations are key sources for the illegal arms and drug trafficking fueling widespread violence. The accusations were made during a special session of the Organization of American States (OAS) held in Washington on 22 May 2025, as a follow-up to the request of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that the OAS take a leadership role in the Haitian multidimensional crisis.

Jean Michel Moïse, Haiti’s Minister of Defense, asserted that the severe security challenges that plague Haiti are not solely due to internal factors but are significantly driven by transnational criminal organizations operating across borders. He specifically highlighted the Dominican Republic as a critical entry point for...

Oh, absolutely, let’s all pretend the Dominican Republic is somehow responsible for Haiti’s collapse, because that makes perfect sense. Never mind the decades of corruption, gang empowerment, failed governance, and refusal to build sustainable institutions, clearly that’s the DR’s fault too, right?

Haiti’s current state is tragic, yes, but let’s be honest: it’s a mess of its own making. And now, when the Dominican Republic, a neighboring country that has done far more than most to help, often at its own expense, says, “Hey, maybe the region should step in to help stabilize things,” the response is finger-pointing?

Right. Because when your house is burning down from years of ignoring the gas leak, the obvious solution is to yell at the neighbor for not giving you their fire extinguisher fast enough.

The truth is, the Dominican Republic has every right to protect its sovereignty, its people, and its future, especially when it’s been left to deal with the fallout of Haiti’s own dysfunction for far too long.

They want to make it seem as if the DR wants Haiti to be in the mess they put it in (worse than every developing country in Latin America.) If Haiti was more like Jamaica it would be better not just for them, Dominicans too. More money to be made with that type of Haiti that doesn’t exist right.

Thank goodness for the separation in 1844. Whatever the Dominicans were thinking, the “this union is not going to work” has been proven. Otherwise the entire island would be in the mess Haiti is in right now.

With regards to the failed war on drugs: If the drugs enter Haiti from Colombia (or other sources), where do those drugs end up?

For use inside Haiti or off to other high demand consumer areas and how do they get there?

The real reality is if Haiti was Jamaica they’d be trying to retake the Dominican Republic. Their arrogance and dishonesty wouldn’t allow for two functioning democracies co-existing
