Heliport/Helicopter tours

Just got back from RD. Coming back from Manati Park between Bavaro and Higuey we passed what looked to be a heliport. We were on a bus which was moving pretty fast so I could get numbers or details. It looked like it offered a helicopter tour. Have any of you heard of such a tour or have any info on such a tour operator???

PS: Manati park was really great!!! I suggest that anyone going to that region should check it out.

Re: Manati Park

We get quite a lot of questions about Manati Park on this board but not a lot of information besides that you can swim with the dolphins. Can you elaborate a bit on Manati Park? What made it great? What did you do there? Any tips for visitors to that park?

Seen the heliport also. Also saw helicopters flying all day around the aerea. The travel agent (at the hotel) offered us some kind of "Indiana Jones" tour from Punta Cana with a helicopter (very expensive one, but i think for adventereous ones: climbing, caves, river etc.) not to be missed) over to that part of the country, almost not reachable by car i quess, it must have been from that heliport. Did not see a helicopter at all at the airport.

I don't know if this helps, but there is a heliport in La Romana. They should at least be able to give you information about other helicopter services in the area or perhaps are connected. Caribair, S.A. Helicoptero - 809-550-2585, 809-221-8076 - Servicio Las 24 Horas.

Re: Manati Park

I didn't go to the swim with the dolphins section. But I did see the dolphin show which was good. There were also a couple of sea lions performing too. There was a lot of different types of birds and a section where you went into a large cage type enclosure where the birds would eat out of your hand. There was a section called Taino Village with some artifacts and info about the history. They also had a show in that area which we didn't have time to catch. But one of the performers in the show showed us around the park as she had time. The place was maintained really well. Beutiful plants and flowers everywhere. In addition to the birds, there were crocidiles, snakes, iguanas, etc. We got there sort of late so I imagine we missed alot but it was still really enjoyable. (It was also the first time my girlfriend had seen dolphins up close, (she took a picture with one.))

Thanks for the heliport info.
