I'm excited to share that my registration request has been approved)) I've been keeping up with news and discussions related to the Dominican Republic for a while now, and I'm thrilled to finally be part of this community. I'm really interested in the culture, lifestyle, and current events of the Dominican Republic, and I'm always looking to learn more. Whether it's travel tips, local insights, or just engaging conversations, I'm eager to connect with others who have the same passion. I can't wait to connect, learn, and maybe even share some experiences. See you all soon!

Has an application to join DR-1 ever NOT been approved? Asking for a friend.
There's an application process to join DR1? Has this always been the case? I got curious as I don't recall anything like that when I joined... Or my email back then was not flagged or something? None of my business really, just curious...

Same for me. Signed on, starting posting, and went from there. Getting banned the first time is a bit upsetting but it becomes a sort of badge of honour each time you get banned after that. As EHM noted , the truth is often elusive in some DR1 posts but as Scully said,”The truth is out there”.

I would not call getting banned a badge of honor at all.

For some of us during the days of the OT threads, it was. I miss those days but the overall banter on DR1 is much more civilized since the decision was made to end the OT threads. I’m sure all the moderators were glad to see the end of the OT threads.

Every person goes through an approval process when they sign up. Each one is approved by either Carlos or me.

aha ! now I know why i got in on the third attempt. When I registered from the UK, got banned next morning or so without even posting any thing.

If you could consider a mechanism for people to contact support/mods/admins when banned on registration, that would be great @AlterEgo . I think I emailed the support mailbox but no answer. I actually registered using my real name originally

Normally I get any emails sent to support about registration forwarded to me. Our software has built in spammer identification, and it’s occasionally wrong (but rarely!)

I think the spam filter is a bit overzealous (I used this word in my email to support) and uses geolocation of IPs to make a determination. While that is good, this does tend to go wrong if the geoip data is not up to date. I can understand the motivation, the bots are getting more and more smart and are used for spam rather than anything useful.

Anecdote : My employer's IT dept emailed one of my colleagues asking why he took his work laptop to Vegas on a Friday night and why he shouldnt be fired. Poor guy had never been to the US. He had to prove that his home IP was in the UK by using 3 separate geoip services and thus retained his job.

Not really, it can be very helpful. Is it always accurate no, but as AE stated rarely wrong. Moving on as this is a thread welcoming Milton Lakey.
