Hello. I have an urgent consignment held up in Customs. The shipper is DHL. Going round and round in circles speaking to idiots in call centers. Has anyone got a contact in DHL or Customs they could help me with?

DHL/UPS standard processing time of shipments which require customs clearance is 5 to 10 business days.

DHL/UPS standard processing time of shipments which require customs clearance is 5 to 10 business days - 7 business days is average. Fedex is presumably worse, I have not used them for imports but I have heard of shipments taking a month to clear DR customs.

It also depends on how fast you respond to inquiries, such as payments of taxes and clearance fees.

Took me 33 days for a insect defogger to clear customs. That was in September.

You can always employ the services of an external customs agent who usually can get your goods in 2 work days. Such services come at premium of about 8000 pesos for the customs agent, documentation fee (which costs almost the same as customs handling of the case by the shipping company itself) plus storage fee by day (about 2k fixed plus daily fee about 500 pesos). In other words it's up to you to decide if you pay 2900 pesos to DHL for handling or about 13000 pesos by using external customs agent and get your goods in 2-3 days.

The OP has not replied yet so I cannot help

I believe OP is based in Santo Domingo. I suggest head up to DHL on Av. Sarasota and sort it out. Worked for me.

Hi everyone I'm really grateful for your help. Eventually after 5 calls today to DHL customer service they emailed me the form and told me what is required. I've sent it back to them now. They are saying it will take 7 days as we need ministry of health clearance.

PM me what's your issue
Rubio I'm really grateful for your offer. I sent the forms back to DHL today as soon as I got them and tomorrow I'm going to call to check that they have been received and something is going on. I have IBS and need a special probiotic to control it but customs are saying I need ministry of health clearance to import it. DHL say they can get this for 2400 which I have paid. The main issue is that I'm running out of the probiotic and will be in severe pain if I run out completely.

Update I have had an email from Esther Liriano who is the Lead de Importaciones saying that I've sent through everything they need and it will take about 5 days to get the documentation from Salud, then 5 more days to get customs completed. I'm going to call her tomorrow to ask if there is anything that can be done to make things go faster, at least I have a name now and am in the process.

I said in my post, I have IBS and need a special probiotic to control it. it's a probiotic food supplement, not prescription medicine

Sorry didn't notice it.

In the future ship via a courier in Miami, most likely it would not get stopped. I bought many supplements on Amazon with no problems.

Seriously. Sent via DHL because he needed it fast, and it's taking twice the time than had he shipped it by courier.
Also, it may be a good idea to keep an extra container of your probiotic on hand-the old "Have 2, when you open one order another" so you always have an adequate supply.
I do that with a ton of stuff (I'm a long time operations/logistics guy)

Amazon arrives in about 4 to 5 days. I buy food supplements and always arrive on time. Might try that next time.

Amazon farms their orders out to different companies. I have a pair of shoes I ordered on Amazon coming from Athens Greece VIA DHL.
