I am trying to establish the cost of hospitalization in the DR. Any information will help.

what broken arm? normally it does not require hospitalization. just the cast. and that can be set by a public hospital at the cost of materials, about 500 pesos minimum. no idea about private hospital cost. if the arm case is complicated and you require surgery think of 2.000 dollars or so.

a room in a private hospital starts at something like 50 dollars a day and goes all the way to 200 or so. every medicine used, every syringe, every bandage is charged extra. birth costs around 1.000 dollars. cancer treatment about 10.000 dollars (depends on the type of cancer, type of treatment and so on).

Good Morning, Two weeks ago I fell down the steps of my apartment. After three days I could not take the pain anymore so I went to HOMS Emergency Room about 7pm. I spent 5 hours with xrays, tomografia, medicine, three different Doctors the last of whom a specialist came from home & prescriptions. My 11th vertebrae is broken with a couple of ribs. The total cost was $RD12,000. They said that they do accept CIGNA but not for emergency treatment. The experience was very similar to stateside Erooms. But if you go it is freezing cold I am seriously cold so bring a jacket. I did not have to pay upfront but they would not let me leave unless I paid. Including not removing the IV line. I asked what if I took it out myself and just walked out & they said their lawyers would have come after me. Actually altogether a pretty good experience.

All I hope is you're not budgeting on coming here without a decent insurance thinking this is the worst thing that could happen to you.

With insurance from a DR company a torn ligament in the ankle/foot Xrays and 2 consults and cast cost 4500 pesos.

Insurance is a good idea to get if staying long periods. Cost $1000 for a year for the Wife and I.

At first i didn't get it and waited till we needed it, wasn't the smartest idea ever!!

Are you staying a long time and or moving here??

When I first came to the DR in 2007, I bought Humana, was like 1,000 pesos or so start up, then 45.00 bucks per Month, same really..US/Pesos.. had either the Royal package or the one above it, forget...I have nothing now, just a high tolerance to pain thank God..I really wanted to go 3 Months ago to the Hospital..I was playing around with my puppy Rocca, she ran past me with her mouth opened, tooth went into my calf and ripped it apart, about a 1/2 dollar size..Yea, needed stitches, maybe 10 or so..So I made a butterfly stitch, using tape to close it..Man! Its now finally a scab that will stay without the pus running it off or when I take showers..No matter how well I would clean it, always filled with pus, all red around it, very nasty....So, try to have some cash saved up just in case, you never know...

And I am sure this is the reason why we see so many folks here with one arm and/or leg..No insurance, no money to save it, gets infected and off it goes..Or somebody caught them trying to rob..Heard stories about that, no idea if true or not..

I've been to CMC for a week with dengue, I have Humano insurance (30 USD month, don't remember the plan), I've paid 30 (!) pesos for the whole treatment. My friend was staying there with dengue exactly the same time, the same dates (just a coinsidence we had it in the same time) he doesn't have insurance and paid more than 50000 pesos.
