Hostels in Santo Domingo?

Hello, I am student travelling to DR over my spring break. My roomate and I were just planning on buying plane tickets and worrying about lodging and so forth when we get there. Kind of a backpacker, nomadic existence if you will. Don't get too scared......I speak pretty good Spanish and have international travel experience....anyway.....are there any hostels in Santo Domingo or any bare bones accomodations for $25 US or less? For that matter anywhere on the island......Also is there bus service from Santo Domingo Airport to downtown.....any other tips or comments would be greatly appreciated. Safety, must sees, good clubs, food, etc. Thank you so much......Nat
