I would say it is impossible to buy a house for 1.2 million pesos in Puerto Plata.
I actually don’t think you will find a house for less than 3.5 million pesos and it will be a quite normal house in a barrio with a very small lot.
Well, if you want a shack - then maybe - lol

anyone selling a house in puerto plata?if so please let me know,up to 1.2mill pesos thanks

If you are on a budget I would rent a house and not buy a house. Not sure if you have lived in Puerto Plata already or not. I rented a 3 bedroom 2 bath house in the Doral area for 13,500 pesos a month. That is the area right across from the Be Live hotel. It was a nice smaller house. Some of the roads are paved and that area and some of them are not paved.

I think people are likely to hold onto land and houses in the DR. I am sure a lot would rather hang onto a vacant lot then have the equal amount of money in the bank.

You could get lucky and find a good price on a house but I think 1.2 mil pesos is too low. A lot of people seem to rent long term as opposed to buying.

I know personally 4 houses in POP within this budget, so it?s definitely possible, BUT, I cannot say if you can find one outside of barrios. If you know the area or locals, living in a good barrio is completely possible (you have to know which barrios are good and which are bad), otherwise I would be very careful. A family of three I know of, purchased a small house with 1,1m, it has only two bedrooms and no garage, but the location is safe, with very few blackouts and water comes 3-5 times weekly. Sometimes there are also houses like this on Corotos, but not that often. I would however stay away or be very careful with cheaper houses in residenciales, the are might not be the best.

With respect, and not meaning to go off-topic, there is a thread about the cost of living in the DR that gives one an idea about monthly expenses.
Maybe after reading through that, Marcion may get a better idea about living standards here.
Another idea would be to look at real estate prices online in the Dominican Republic.
(BTW the prices are in U.S Dollars and not Pesos although you'd be amazed to see how many people ask that question)!

here it is, it's a sticky in the living section: http://dr1.com/forums/living/112283-living-costs-dominican-republic.html

as far as the house goes. there are plenty of houses even below this value in POP, in many barrios. the difficulty would be to find one that was legally built, has a title and can be safely bought. many people build on stolen land or at least without any paperwork to prove ownership. many barrios are set on properties that were arrabalizados, overtaken by squatters.

yeah..it isn?t too nice to be in your living room, having a nice meal and watching a Seinfeld rerun, only to have some government botella come to the door and tell you that the land your house is on is government property, and a baseball diamond is slated for your spot.
