If somebody tells you a good joke then you say LA BOTASTE or TE LA BOTASTE
If you hear a joke then you say SE LA BOTO

Been living here since '97 and have never heard that phrase.

I just say "that's funny". Say it enough and they'll get it...some will even start using it (the phrase). lol

You just say: Esta bueno ese...(referring to the joke) Que chistoso will be lame too, or you can also say in a more informal manner: tu te corres.

Not that I'm close to fluent in Spanish... but "que raro" seems like something i've heard to express something is funny. is that possible, or something else for me to scratch off my list of things i thought i knew?

Be warned "te corres/te la comiste" , as suggested here by some people, would get you some odd looks if not beaten up in other parts of the Spanish speaking world :)

It would be super helpful to me if all of you could post your way of saying it in Spanish and then translate it into English.
You could translate it literally or try to explain kind of what it really means.
It seems like "Que raro" and "Que chistoso" are very different.
I'm also learning and fairly fluent but like to be able to build the bridge to English and understand the word itself and then try to make sense out of the expression.
I don't know if that makes any sense to everyone but it helps me to learn.
