I recently received a proposal from an account exec to advertise in El Dia.

Generally speaking, what do you guys think of el dia when compared to diario libre, listin diario, etc?

Thanks.

El D?a has highest circulation on the country, Diariolibre is second in circulation but has a much higher readers rate. Diariolibre would definitely be the one to go with if you have to choose.

Thanks for the replies.

I know that el dia is a very popular paper, but I did notice that both of their main homepage banners are empty, while diariolibre's are currently almost all full. Could it be that they're way too expensive?

No way El D?a has the highest circulation in the Country???? Come on!!
The largest number of newspapers is Diario Libre by far...double the Listin but the Listin is the largest newspaper in the country.

If you are going to put an ad in a paper put it in the Diario Libre or the Listin.

I was at "Ole" supermarket in SD this am. (NOT a high class chain!)
They were giving away free copies at the entrance.
"HB" is right again!
No news there!
Go with "DL", I love that paper!
"On-Line" edition too!

No, El Dia does have the highest circulation, Omnimedia (diariolibre) admits that, but they point out, rightly so, that Diario libre is read by more people , while one Diario libre is read by multiple people while many El Dia's stay unread on the pavement.

Basically diariolibre is a little more expensive than El dia to advertise in, anyway Diario Libre is the best way to go with, if you have to chose. Publishing in both is even better though.

What do you mean "largest circulation"? DL prints more newspapers than anyone. Listin has the second largest print run and has by far the most subscribers, with home delivery.
El D?a? Maybe in Santo Domingo, but you would be hard pressed to find a copy in Santiago...

But I will check this out, JIC..

"HB", Don't Bother!"
There are 3 kinds of "Statistics", "Lies,Lies, and DAMN LIES!!!!!"
"DL" is "READ" by more people than any other "daily"!
Since it is "FREE", and each copy read by several people, it is not the "Subscription" leader, who cares????
Definetely the best place to advertise generally speaking.

DL used to have the highest circulation (number of printer newspapers), Corripio couldn't stand that and is just printing more every month, even though El Dia is not even half as popular as DL. That's why since about a year DL is not claiming highest circulation anymore but highest 'lectoria'. Obviously that's more interesting than higher circulation. DL prints 156,800 papers, I think el dia 165,000.

ok, let me get it right: they print newspapers that no one reads just to be able to say they print the most newspapers?

genius.

Yes, they actually do. While that's their 'marketing instrument'. "Advertise with us, while we have more circulation!" And it works. DL answers: "They might have more printed newspapers, ours are read by more people."

It makes as much sense as the FACT that most Dominican Newspaper editors lose money every year. Most owners are not in the newspaper business to make money (not directly, that is).

newspapers are no longer the source of information or news. they are tools of power and propaganda. and that alone has more value that the actual money...

That's right, the newspaper by itself in most cases doesn't make money but the influence the owner has, makes money indirectly.

I wonder if its healthy though that one guy owns two mayor newspaper and partly owns the biggest paid newspaper.

I went to a VERY high source and this is what I got:

El D?a dice que tira m?s pero su lector?a lo desmiente. El D?a afirma que tira sobre 162,000 pero su tirada no se puede comprobar y tienen un 18 por ciento de lector?a. Nosotros tiramos 156,000 y tenemos 33 por ciento de lector?a. Ni ellos se creen el cuento.

So they print more but have a little over half of the readership of the Diario Libre. TThat is a lot of newspaper for use in the letrines of this country. Maybe we can make briquettes out of what they do not sell!!

Like I said, you can't find one here in Santiago....So go with Diario Libre or Listin Diario!!!

Thanks for all the replies.

Actually, I was thinking of purchasing a web banner.

In terms of popularity (between the corripio papers), El Dia seems to be the least popular, while elnacional.com.do is the most popular. In terms of views, they say elnacional.com's homepage is seen by 3.5M viewers, and 8.9M pages are visited monthly, although I'm not sure if they're unique.

In terms of banner space, diario libre seems to be quite a bit more expensive than any of the three papers. I'm still waiting for them to send me the google stats.
