I am sponsoring a child that lives in DR and I would like to send her a card to wish her a happy Valentine's Day. How would I say- "Happy Valentine's Day" and "you are special to us" Would these just be a straight Spanish translation or does Dominican Spanish differ? thank in advance!

Oh my! I had read somewhere that children exchanged angelito gifts on valentine's. So I was under the impression that, like in the US, it was a day for those you care about- not just lovers- that was celebrated by children too. So glad to know this. Definitely want to avoid it then. Thanks!

What about scrapping the whole Valentine's Day reference and just making a card that says that she is special to us...and translation please :)

If it's for a friend you can say this Feliz Dia del Amor y La Amistad (adding La amistad meaning friendship) which is appropriate anywhere

You're special to us is -Eres especial para nosotros or "estas en nuestros pensamientos" You're in our thoughts

From the mouth of a child visiting DR

I was speaking to a NorthAmerican child, about 4 years old a few days before Valentine's Day, he asked me if I knew it was "Huggentimes Day" that coming weekend. Thought it was a great confusion / misunderstanding /interpretation of a big word for a child. Sorry, not related to Spanish translation of wishes to a child, but a different type of translation.
