If you are over 65, your driver license needs to be renewed every two years

The National Transit Agency (Intrant) says it is implementing the measure ordered in 2019 by Decree 6-19 issued by former President Danilo Medina that calls for drivers over 65 to renew their licenses every two years instead of four years as for other age segments.

Listin Diario reports that for this to change, President Luis Abinader would need to issue a new decree allowing those 65+ to renew for four years as everyone else.

No, it's not ! I have a good friend (80 years old) visiting me every weekend. He comes by car and is totally unwilling to give up driving.
It's only a matter of time that he gets killed or most likely kills somebody else. You are right when saying that the young ones are a bigger Danger but there is absolutely nothing that can be done about this. Fix the issues that can be fixed and accept the ones that can't.

That is not correct. Each state has their own rules for "senior drivers". We had to "nicely" tell my FIL that it was time to give up driving. He is in his 80's and he definitely does not drive like he used to. Although ask him and he will tell you he is an excellent driver. Both my parents knew when it was time they should not be driving anymore.

I mentioned before I was willing to sell my vehicles and not renew my license and use UBER, but we all know what happened with UBER.

One of my neighbors has a dedicated Taxi guy who drives a fairly new Toyota Sienna that looks like new. I talked to him once and he's a nice guy, so maybe I'll use him in the future and see how he does.

It is true that the fee is cut in half. So it actually cost the DR more as they renew a license 2 times in 4 years as opposed to one time for everyone under 65. It has to cost money when they issue a new license.........

I'm just being realistic ! You might see a Unicorn before you see the young kid's here driving with care and responsible. Solve what can be solved and accept reality.

The reality of this is anyone any age can still get a license here. And if you haven't renewed lately all you need is to pass a vision and hearing test to get it. NOT a driving test........Just an inconvenience every 2 years instead of 4............And if everyone had to pass a driving test to renew the vast majority of failures would not be drivers over 65............

It's very simple now. No more bank visit. You pay at Intrant, do a vision and hearing test. 30 questions on a tablet and you're done. In and out in less than 30 minutes.
