Does anyone know how much to estimate to install internet service/wifi in the house in the Puerto Plata area? Any recommendations on providers?
The exact cost would be what the IPS charges as monthly fees, but "Puerto Plata area" is a bit vague as the availability of any said connection may vary quite a bit, even within the city... We are customers of Claro since 5 years and recently upgraded to fiber optics connection and are definitely not looking to change providers but that's just for our location, rather close to city center in POP

Thanks Josh. Any ideas of how much I should expect to pay? Just a range of medium speed prices? Or maybe just how much you paid before the switch to fiber?
It all depends on the ISP and the speeds you are looking at. All from 500 pesos - 12000 pesos depending on speeds and ISP. I myself have Cable La union as my ISP, but then I live between Batey, Sosúa and the Airport, and they don't operate everywhere, and I have 100/50 mbit speeds, something that Claro cannot provide where I live, and I pay 5050 pesos/month for that connection and it's working great, I have my own private IPv4 address as well so I can have my own servers and so on.

Before we paid about 2800 DOP for the best available (which was bad) 20/2 Mbps ADSL connection + satellite tv package (Claro Multiplan), now we pay approx. just 2400 - 2500 DOP for the fiber optics (40/20 Mbps) including tv, as that also comes from the modem... Shortly, we're planning to upgrade to 100/40 Mbps connection which has been quoted to cost around 3500 DOP which again includes tv and everything...

Josh, check with Altice to see if they have fiber optic service in your area.

I have 100/40 connection and only pay 1844.00 monthly.

So 3500 pesos a month internet los costillos Area not out of line ?
Depends completely on the details and conditions. You're not giving any details here so in my opinion not possible to say. Speed/technology/amount of data/etc.

Do yourself the calculation and estimate. All providers have this on their websites:

Claro

Altice

Best of luck! As other said above, prices depend on terms, conditions, the amount of megas/gigas and coverage in your area.
