Does anyone have any experience or information about the InterContinental Hotel in Santo Domingo? I am planning a trip in November.

I have had people stay there, and they said they had a good experience. They offer a suite that has kind of a small sala next to the "bedroom" section of the room, and has a nice view. The cost in 2002 was about US$175 per night, and I doubt it has changed much.

I would highly recommend the restaurant in the basement of the Intercontinental, when they have the Argentinian night (I think on Thursday nights?) or Brazilian night. Very tasty food.

I stayed @ The V Centenario, SDQ Intercontinental last year for $99 (incl. breakfast) booked through Expedia and enjoyed my stay.

Stayed there a couple of times earlier this year. Good location on the Malecon with clean, modern rooms. It caters to business travellers and those with money. Check-in/check-out was quick. Didn't eat there as there are several restaurants nearby on the Malecon and the Colonial Zone is only a few minutes drive away.

Significantly nicer than the Clarion (in my opinion) for essentially the same price.

If not the best one of the best hotels in Santo Domingo, I travel to DR 5 or 6 times a year and I always stay there, great rooms, great services, great breakfast, great location and great people.
To me is top of the line.
I will highly recomended it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Nice hotel

stayed there on friday night courtesy of American Airlines rerouting. Nice view from my room, good restaurants, great shower massager with plenty of hot water.... not very far from Colonial Zone, if you are a walker go through Conde and enjoy some cheap shopping for trinkets.

For me Intercontinental V centenario for me is the worst hotel in the Malecon and Worst service! For many years i go almost twice a month to the Capital for business! In the begining i try to get the best deal and for at least 4 times i stayed in the intercontinental and for me it is the worst value. First the rooms in the intercontinental club level for business travelers are suposed to be the best rooms. First let me tell you the A/C in the Lobby dont work! At the rooms the A/C sucks!!!. The furniture is old and very ugly! The beds are extremely unconftarble. There is no nightlife in that hotel or good restaurants. It was suprising for me because i have stayed in Intercontinental hotels in other countries and places and they tend to be great luxurious hotels. I call Intercontinental hotels main offices and they told me that specifically that Intercontinental is a Franchise and the have had several problems with the owners that are chineese orgin!!

Until the Hilton at Malecon center open i made the Jaragua mi hotel for Business in Santo Domingo!. But also i stayed a couple of time in Melia Santo domingo and is very good also. Just to let you know all the hotels in the Malecon area are pretty much in my experience the same price$$$$

not during my stay

A/c in lobby working quite well (maybe a little too well)
A/c in my room working quite well
Restaurants- both very nice- the Brazilian one was good and their breakfast nice at the Brasserie.
Bed, very comfortable (slept better than my Serta)
Furniture- was probably new 5 years ago, but in good condition and definitely not falling apart by any stretch of one's imagination.

Kemo, when was the last time YOU stayed there?

have stayed at both the Inter continental and the Sol Melia.I think Kemo's post regarding the AC and old furniture is bizzare as this was not the case in the 3X I stayed there this year.
As far as price I paid about $190 at the Inter Con. and much more at the Sol Melia. In addition the Sol Melia , in my opinion, has a attitude problem.

My 2 centavos.

no

are these guest friendly ?

Security right at elevator. Doesnt know you or guest stopped right away. Same at Sol Melia. Felt very comfortable at both hotels as they keep all riff raff out. Floors with suites can only be accessed with entrance card in the elevator (or the elevator will not stop at that floor)

Sorry.
