Almost any ferreter?a sells the iron hardware and local craftsmen make the burglar proofing.
Normally they don't withstand a determined action, just delay the break in.
Any such design can easily pulled out of the wall by a small
hydraulic jack or a crow bar.
But Dominicans like to sit behind bars ....

Zak, there is no ultimate security, but to get bars more jack-proof make anchors for them welded to the metal rods, which are embedded deep inside of the wall during construction.

Nothing is impossible and no bar will withstand gas-oxygen torch, but welded anchoring can be pulled out only together with the wall.

Get yourself a security system, Vibrators on Bars and Magnets on windows, and inside heat sensor's.

Put the bars INSIDE, they are virtually burglar-proof & never rust..... Folding steel bars inside sliding glass doors are excellent as they can be folded back each side when needed & are a huge deterrent to thieves. A steel barred door outside each wooden door is vital. Canadian Bob.

The problem with burglar bars on the outside of windows generally are, that while they may be strong, they are usually attached to the wall in most ridiculous ways. Almost never, they are to be found cut but only levered out of the cement after a burglary.
We attach all our burglary bars thru the wall with threaded extention and large decorative washers with nuts. Most windows will have 6 points of attachement... larger ones will have more. This a very easy "you can do it" kind of approach.
We have our burglar bars made by local ironsmith using ancient andalusian designs in most cases so they are decorative too.
Regualar burglars are lazy... if it don't wiggle within the first two tries... they'll move on to the next "job".

I would like to think anyone could do the same in the DR.
