Is T-MOBILE planning to enter the Dominican GSM Market?

hey guys i have no confirmation of this move by Deutsche Telekom aka T-MOBILE a leader in the Telecommunications industry in Europe and Orange Telecommunications rival, they have successfully entered the US market and apparently heading east to our beautiful country, i would like to know if any of our beloved dr1.com members have any information about this?, this is what i have compile so far...........

i tried to log into www.t-mobile.com.do just to check and BANG! they had it registered www.t-mobile.com.do links to their corporate site, you never know they might have all brand related domains linked to them.

im quite not sure but there is a strong possibilty because everytime i go to buy a cell phone to use and activate in dr they seem to always give me a tmobile phone. both phones that i have purchased have been activated and work in dr. they have given me no problems. most phone companys put a chip in your phone preventing you to activite it with anyone else tmobile doesn't have this chip....

I hardly doubt T-Mobile will be entering the DR market any time soon. There are already four carriers in this small market and any new carrier would need a license, which is not available. T-Mobile would have to buy one of the carriers, and the only one that would be up for sale is Tricom, which is in financial distress. However, Tricom's network is cdma, and T-Mobile uses GSM in all of its operations for roaming, so that makes Tricom an unlikely candidate for an acquisition. Additionally, if you check other www.t-mobile.com.xx domains for countries where t-mobile does not currently have operations, like ve,ar,br,mx you will see that those all point to their corporate website. It costs very little to register a domain.

As for why the phones you buy here are T-Mobile branded phones? Probably the place where you buy them brings them or has a supplier that brings them from the US. I have seen many times Sprint branded phones here as well. They are either used phones or someone is somehow taking advantage of offers in the US to get new subsidized phones there to bring here.

Regarding phone locks. All phones that you purchase from any operator are locked. My assumption is that your T-Mobile branded phones are not locked because someone previously unlocked them to make them work here on Orange's network, which is the only GSM network in the Dominican Republic (the same network T-Mobile uses).
