Ist Time In DR

We are a family of four (two teenagers 13 & 15) travelling to DR from UK in August (Punta Cana). We have several questions, they might appear trivial to you but to us there are important. I hope you can indulge us and help in some way.

1. Mosquitos - are they a big problem? any tips.
2. Weather - can we expect much rain? Is it really hot?
3. Food - we are staying all in at e resort - any problems?
4. Satelite TV. What satelite channels will we get. (kids Quesion - we will miss opening day of football season!!).

Some answers.

Not too many mosqquitos but take some bug repellant anyway and use it especially in the evenings
Not much rain, maybe an afternon shower. Unless, of course we have a hurricane and then you will get lots of rain if it passes us by. With today's modern weather satellites, no hurrican will sneak up on us so don;t even worry abbout that!!
Yes, it is really hot! sun block is a must or you will suffer like you can't believe. No sun TAN lotion..Sun Block lotion, you must not play with the sun.
your food will be quite good and you should gain a pound or two during your stay.
they have their own satellite dish, and I imagine if youask nicely they will try and find those opening games for you.
Try and find out on which satellite they will be carried. OMNI-I think, is the name of the Satellite users...Anyway there is a magazine with this information available, and it is porbably on the net, too. Isn't everything??

the food at the resorts is fine, just don't drink the water from the tap (only bottled) have fun! You'll love the DR!

You are not likely to get Satelite transmission on UK football though, but it is possible.
Other suggestions, do not drink anything but bottled water and watch the bahama mamma's and coco loco, although the are nice (rum and coconut based drinks) could cause Montezuma's revenge.
Enjoy the DR, it is paradise.

You gotta love your reputation around here! Probably well deserved as far as I can tell.....Straight shooter even if the truth hurts. My hats off to you Hillbilly.....and when I grow up (if I grow up) I wanna be just like you!.......LOL Take Care Hillbilly.....Just had to say that. You know what I think..... anybody on this board that has been on for a while and thier opinion is respected,they should become a figure that DR1 should ask about deletions. Of course the final say would be up to DR1, and rightfully so, but as they say two heads are better than one.....Just a thought? Just two or maybe four ppl who DR1 would ask.....kinda like a jury, with DR1 being the Judge. This would probably make things more difficult. But with the recent loss of some very intelligent board members(now I not saying whos fault if any)this might be a thought? What's everyones opinion?

Mosquitoes, some white people who are not used to be exposed to mosquito bytes can have a hard time with them. But, nothing a Off repellent can?t handle. Also, what hotel are you going to be expending you vacation, do they fumigate regularly, do they have mosquito nets on the balcony doors.

Weather this time of year is very hot, 32 to 35 C. convert that to F., it rains but this is not the rainy season, witch is in Spring, we do have a Hurricane season, but a hurricane strikes the island every 20 to 30 years.

The Santana Beach Resort in San Pedro de Macoris has the best food I?ve had in a all inclusive hotel, even the buffet was great, it?s a 5 star hotel with a Casino, very nice, clean and pleasant beach area, I recommend it.

Satellite TV can include a wide variety of American Channels (Cartoon Network, Disney, Nickelodeon etc.) they have Dutch TV, TV5 from France, Television Espa?ola and an Italian Channel I can remember witch.
