I have just been to Jarabocoa once for a couple of nights. We were in a car and it would of been nice to be in a SUV for some of the roads. Depends how much you want to explore and drive around. We went to some of the waterfalls. We stayed at the Jarabocoa river club. There was hardly anyone else there when we stayed there.

We drove to Constanza and looked around. We were in a gravel road wanting to explore in Constanza and that is when it was a pain to be in a little car. I would of continued if I was in a SUV. I looked for a house to rent but only saw a couple of vrbo. I would be interested in renting something like you are talking about.

Google vrob.com vacation rental by owner. There are many places listed for Jarabocoa.

You can spend some time at the Monte Alto coffee factory. Their tour costs 100 pesos and is very interesting. They have a little restaurant and free coffee of course. Best coffee on the island in my opinion! Its just across the bridge on your left!

I think for a week you would need to do some hiking, mountain biking or a lot of time enjoying the view if you have one. I checked VRBO before I went last time and it looks like the same houses. I wanted to actually look at some of the houses in person but I never did.

There was just two of us and there is a 3,4 and 5 bedroom. Looks like a better deal if you have more then just two people renting one of those houses.

I stayed at Rancho Baiguete River Rafting - Canyoning - Pico Duarte Tours and the Papillon Garden with Butterfly Exhibition at Rancho Baiguate Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic! which is quite lovely. No tvs, lovely grounds, great little brook.. well some might say river. Includes meals..nothing special but will keep you nourished. GREAT pool away from everything. Family run. They do have rafting and some horse back trips and it would make a good base camp.

I see that they have summer camps so you might want to check on those dates since it will not be tranquil with all the kids.
