The Central Electoral Board (JCE) is tackling the issue of incomplete civil registry records for 2.8 million individuals as part of its effort to issue a new identity and electoral card. This figure represents approximately 34.37% of the electoral roll, which comprises 8,145,548 citizens eligible to vote in the upcoming 2024 elections, as reported in Diario Libre.

During a recent meeting with political party representatives, the JCE outlined the bidding process for the new card’s printing and provided an update on the irregularities within the civil registry, along with plans to rectify these issues.

Janet Camilo, a representative from the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), confirmed that the JCE intends to systematically address the deficiencies in the civil registry while concurrently working on the renewal of identity cards.

Since there is still a bidding and procurement process to be had, I suspect new cedulas to be sometime next year?

The business of registering Haitian children as Dominicans for a few dollars may be coming to an end.
I can see where this is heading. NGOs are gonna throw one hell of a temper tantrum.
