The Central Electoral Board (JCE) announced voting stations will be open for the municipal election from 7am to 5pm on Sunday, 16 February 2020 nationwide. Voters are not allowed to enter with mobile phones, firearms or any kind of weapon, backpacks, handbags, and cameras of any kind.
There are two ways of voting. Electronic voting and traditional manual voting. Electronic voting devices will be used in 18 municipalities, 58 municipal districts, 1,772 polling places, and 9,757 voting stations. Overall, 4,644,590 voters will be using the automated voting machines. Then there will be manual voting in 140 municipalities, 178 municipal districts, 2,397 polling places and 6,275 voting stations, using printed ballots. In other words, 2,842,450 will be voting the traditional way.
The municipal election is about filing 3,849 municipal government positions. This includes 158 mayors and deputy mayors, 1,164 city councilors and substitutes, 235 municipal directors and deputy directors and 735 members of city government.
