Juan Dolio A/I Hotels?

I do not know Juan Dolio at all other than having visited the beach a couple of times for half and hour. I am trying to find a place to send a young couple 23-25 year old on their first A/I holiday.

Now, can anyone recommend something in that area not overly pricey, but not a dump either?

Oh my, seems easy to underestimate the offerings on Juan Dolio, after reading I see many find not going A/I is the best option and there appears to be some good pricing. Value for money around the next couple of months what would be the advice from those in the know?

For the same money you can get a decent AI hotel in Bavaro, Uvero Alto or Bayahibe. Off-season, of course.

I agree with Matilda. Barcelo is nice and not expensive. Google for a discount code if you book. I've stayed there in the past and am going back right after Easter.

cheap and easy if time is short

Especially if money is tight and time short, there are some really good deals on AIs in the RD. If you are interested in seeing a little more of "real life" outside of the resorts walls, you do get more Dominican flavor by visiting towns ( and a $45 o $50 hotel) rather than just merely resorts. But often for first time trips, where beach and pool are the priority the AI is the best bet. The biggest variable I find at these low priced AIs is the food, which can range from decent to barely passable....but at $100 / night for two all inclusive, this is a reasonable risk...at least for me if the facilities, pools and beaches are good, which is the case at Costa Caribe and The Allegro in Puerto Plata (north coast). Costa Carib food was decent, Allegro (lovely grounds), barely passable....both beaches great.

As mentioned, I would check the Barcelo properties, I have heard good things.

A resident inJuan Dolio, stay away from Costa Caribe. The conditions are deplorable.
The best alternative for an all inclusive (slowly dying business) is Barcelo in Juan Dolio- also not great.
As an alternative:
1- Embassy Suites in the Metro Country Club... very well run, nicely appointed, great pool and golf, however, you will need to get a taxi or walk 15 minutes to the beach.
2- Costa del Sol or Marbella Condo rentals- on the beach, beautiful condos (kitchens etc..) with a few decent restaurants around.

Juan Dolio is becoming totally residential, and in time, it will be condo-owner rentals that will dominate the rental/vacation market.

Many of the hotels listed in Kyle's link have been gone for years.
Capella or Plaza Real would be my choice if I was going now.

We stayed at the Capella in January this year, Me the wife and our 3 year old daughter and we had a great time there, The building is dated at least 15 years old, However food and staff are good.
The evening shows are very good and there is a night club from 11pm so for your 20 + couple they will have a great time there without spending a small fortune
