I was swimming around the beach on the extreme east side of New Juan Dolio. I found it very shallow at spots and a large coral formation where the waves break wont let you out to open water. They are pretty wide and very shallow. When I moved further west near the Maribella I found an exit near the man made jetty. I didnt want to swim out further because it began getting dicey without equipment. I am searching for good beach to sea exit points. Is anyone snorkling/diving around this area that can advise on 1. Good Exit Points? 2. Good Snorkle Areas? 3. Interesting sites and depth that can be accessed from the beach? I have seen the map at the Neptuno in the Barcelo as far as the popular sites. At some point I will check those out. But for now I am interested in thinks closer off the beach. I also sometimes see some snorklers walking from around the El Concon area with Red Snappers speared. Anyone know where they are fishing? Perhaps form around that small beach area to the east?

They fish off the rocks right there- no beach area to speak of.
I think you have already identified most points to snorkel. I have snorkeled form the old Juan Dolio beach starting in front of Il Sueno all the way around the reef to Guayacanes at the entrance beyond the El Pescador restaurant where the row boats exit to fish. The entire swim (around 2 miles is filled with all kinds of great reef fish, mostly schools of snapper, squid and lots of eels. An occasional shark- small reef from time to time. Suggest you make the journey on a light - flat day, the current works towards Guayacanes away from Juan Dolio.
Enjoy- be careful, snorkel with a buddy snorkeler.

Happy Holidays!!!!!!

Well I did the trip from 12/9 to 12/19. I donned some swim fins, mask snorkle and swim gloves and off I went. I went from about the Meridiana to west to the Barcello Capela where I exited just short of Neptuno dive center. I was in awe of the coral formations and the abundant sealife. Schools of yellow snappers, some surgeon fish, pleanty of sea urchins, some gobies, and something large I couldnt identify. I found some large red sea fans that were in excellent condition. After I got out past the breakers the coral was on one side and the blue beyond. The distance was covered easily as there was always something new to see. I definately am going to be doing more of this in the future.

Fish wise....... I am not the best fisherman but I sent out two 9ft beach poles. Two large spinners. About 3 different types of lures. One a white rubbery thingy that has a head weight. I also brought some hooks out for bait. If there is a shore fisherman on this forum please help. I am winging it!

To the right of the Coral Costa Caribe hotel, there is a project thats called "Palmas del Mar" , right in front of that project , on the beach, there is a natural water canal betwen two huge coral formations. You can expect 25 to 30 feet with good visibility on a flat day, the surf will hit you but is not that bad if you are an experienced diver. You can also check out the man made rock wall the hotel did years ago and is good place to surf fish, spearfish. Expect to see permits, jack cravelles, pompanos, cudas, kingfish, parrot fish, and if you are lucky, maybe a nurse shark. :ermm: THIS IS NOT A PLACE FOR BEGGINERS, THE WATER TENDS TO SWIRL IN SEVERAL SPOTS WHEN THE CURRENTS CHANGE, AND IF YOU PANIC , IT WILL BRING YOU DOWN TO THE FLOOR, SO AVOID GOING IF YOU THINK YOU CANT HANDLE IT:ermm:. I've been fishing and spearfishing those water for 27 year, and is probaly the best spot in Juan Dolio.

Would that be to the right as you look at the beach from the water? With that wall going into the water then turning right? I am looking for it on Google earth.
