President Luis Abinader appointed 57-year old Julio César Valentín Jiminián as the new Superintendent of Insurance on Thursday, 22 August 2024. Presidential Decree 459-29 names Valentin to replace Josefa Castillo, who has been named to the National Institute for Early Childhood Care (Inaipi).
Valentín holds a law degree with a master’s in political science and development, as well as postgraduate degrees in international public law, diplomacy, international arbitration and parliamentary law.
He has served as deputy for three consecutive periods 1998-2002, 2002-2006 and 2006-2010, and was president of the Chamber of Deputies for 2006-2010.
During his term in Congress, he advocated for a reduction in the number of deputies.
He was senator for the province of Santiago for two consecutive terms 2010-2016 and 2016-2020.
