I see there is a large construction behind the parking lot at Jumbo. Anyone know if this is Jumbo expanding or is it some kind of mall?

It's a shopping center, not expansion of the store itself.

Behind which Jumbo? There's plenty of Jumbo branches nationwide.
Yes, plenty in the country but one in the entire north coast. If this is the North Coast forum and the reference is the expasion of Jumbo based on a construction, 2 + 2 = 4 here, there, everywhere.

OK. Any idea what stores will be there and are they expanding parking too
I don't know what stores are definite for this shopping center.

Apologies, I only see posts sorted from the main home page, not from the forum sections. Thanks for the advice.

These were the images of the proposed shipping center that were going around in June last year. Really hope that it is something like this, it is time to have some sort of mall in Puerto Plata. Not sure if the construction that is going on there will be anything like the images but this was the proposal last year

Anyone know the current status of this project? We've recently been frequently in Jumbo and I first thought there would be a mall already but it appears to be a empty building only? I would have hoped they would have expanded the supermarket as well as I have always thought the Jumbo in POP to be extremely cramped. Narrow aisles and just no space anywhere. That's the only thing we dislike there...

Status: 95% finished, just waiting for the big tenants that will fill the mall.

By the look of the structure, it will be a small mall strip for POP.

After 2 years of this thread been abandoned, they recently updated their official IG with recurring posts about the new mall:

Thanks, interesting!

The parking lot is already now usually close to full, so I wonder if they have thought of the parking situation. Same for the traffic in the rotonda...

I'd guess the entire basement has parking, just like the one here on Ave. Luperon.

Luperon has parking for 600+ vehicles, and it is almost always 105% full.

In that case they will really have to do something about the traffic entering and leaving and the roundabout outside.
