Hello,

Just back from 9 beautiful days in the Samana Peninsula @ Las Terrenas and Las Galeras. I received lots of great info from this board and would be glad to share my experiences with others. A detailed trip report will follow. Any questions...Just post them and I'll be happy to respond.

Welcome back!

Hope you had a great trip. My husband and I had planned to be in Samana right about this time, but I am stuck in DC for a while :-( I hope you had fun for me ;-) Where did you end up staying in Las Galeras/Terrenas? Did you take a look at Villa Serena? Is it true that they are in the process of expanding/adding more rooms? Can't wait for your trip report!

Regards,
Natasha

Hope you had a great time Carleton and any info I passed on was helpful. Natasha, when i was there in April Villa Serena was adding on to the left looking out at the ocean.

I can tell you that...

A year ago they were pouring the new ground floor for perhaps 10 new rooms. Off to the left as you were looking at the water.
With the change in government, she might lose a few of the local clients but the nestegg obtained as head of protocol in the National Henhouse (ie. Palace) should tide her over....LOL

It IS the most beautiful of spots, no matter what.

From a rather catty HB this morning...Wonder what got into me???
Must need more caf?/??

Hello Natasha, Sorry to hear that you're stuck in DC, although there are worse places to be stuck, like here in Central PA. We stayed at the Villa Serena in Las Galeras for 5 nights and El Portillo near Las Terrenas for 3 nights. We loved the Villa Serena and really liked El Portillo as well. Construction looks to be complete on 10 additional rooms at the Villa Serena. They are on the left side of the grounds if you're facing the ocean. They looked to be unoccupied while we were there. There is also a new restaurant. I'm not sure how long it's been there but a couple whom we talked to said it wasn't there a year ago. The restaurant is quite beautiful. Ocean and lushly landscaped views abound. We stayed in the beautiful, all white room #1. You could rock yourself to sleep to the sound of the ocean on the balcony hammock. The Villa Serena has to be the most beautiful place that I've stayed in the Caribbean. I'll followup with a detailed trip report that I'll post here as well as submit to Debbies Dominican. In the meantime, if you have any more questions, feel free to post them.
