Hi

We are heading off to the Dominican Republic to get married on July 4th and since booking i have been told that it rains all the time and we are going right in hurricane season. I am now having nightmares about the place and really not looking forward to it, if anyone has been to this part of the island or knows anything of it an e-mail would be much appreciated.
Any general comments about it would also be appreciated.

Thanks

Hurricane season typically runs June to the end of November but that doesnt necessarily mean 6 months of inclement weather. It can be hot and sunny with evening showers too.

Try to look forward to your big day and hopefully you will have blue skies and sunshine.

Best of luck to you.

I live not too far from La Romana. Our rainy season here normally starts in May and we have a couple of weeks of pretty constant rain. From then until November we can go 2 or 3 weeks without or it can rain for a while most days. You are very unlikely to have a week or two of solid rain. When it rains it is often in the afternoon or evening rather than in the morning. There is no way of knowing if it will rain on your big day. But take comfort that if it does rain on your wedding day, Dominicans believe it will bring you luck and you will have a happy marriage!!! So pray for rain!!!

I travel to the island all the time, between May and September and haven't had any real weather issues or hurricanes to worry about. Rain here and there yes, but nothing ever lasted more than 2 or 3 days straight....you'll be fine! :)
Be sure to check out Bayahibe if you are in the vecinity, it is real nice!
If you do, stop by the Western Union [casa de cambio] and ask for Joel. Tell him Jaime sent you! LOL :)

Congrats! La Romana is a very nice city and a beautiful vacation area not far from where we live (Juan Dolio). Matilda has given you an accurate picture. During the time I've been here, it seems that the rainy season doesn't really "kick in" until after the end of July, with Aug-Nov having been the worst for my years here. But one can't base that on a few years--look at the statistical data that NOAA.gov puts out. Anywhere you go, you'll roll the dice that something inclement COULD happen. My bet is that you may have a little rain here an there (very much like Hawaii where you'll have a shower and then sun--hot sun.) As for the big storms, if it happens, just plan an alternative. This would be the sensible thing for any outdoor wedding no matter where or when. I'm sure you will have a lovely, memorable wedding and honeymoon here.
