If Larimar is only found in the DR
how come this stone is so undervalued there
and people dont buy them as a form of investment
or important collections?

Surely Larimar - or anything else for that matter - could only be valuable if the demand was higher than the supply. The fact that it is only found in the DR has nothing whatsoever to do with it. Or am I being too simplistic?

Personally, I'm not keen on Larimar, I find it too pale and uninteresting, I would rather have something vibrant and vivid. I much prefer Turquoise if I want a blue stone of that kind.

Larimar is my favorite stone! I love it...

I agree it is undervalued, but I think it's that no one really knows about it, unless they go the DR... I used to wear a ring with Larimar every day and people would always ask me what the stone was and I would have to explain the story.

You are right Bugsey

I think now is the time to load up with this stone
before they get too expensive because i just read
on a dominican newspaper that a greek had a paintings
store in Hawaii and after finding out about Larimar
he changed his business from paintings to jewlery design
using this stones after he experienced the success he had
when he tried selling these stones in his paint store.

He is now determined to take his collection around the world
to let the world know about this stone.

I don't know either why Larimar is so cheap.
You can find really beautiful skyblue stones, not pale at all; it depends where you buy them.
Anyway, there is nothing exclusive to it, there are a number of internet sites already that sell Larimar jewelry online, just do a search on google.

I thought that the fact that you are not able to find them
anywhere else in the world, that would automaticaly make
it exclusive no matter how ugly the stone may be.

This is the way to make larimar or anything Dominican more expensive worldwide

Make people believe that anything coming from Dominican Republic must be good and thus, must be expensive. Even if the stuff falls short of being great, people will pay alot once they equate the name Dominican Republic with big bucks.

Think about it, Japanese stuff sells far more expensive than Chinese. In many cases, China produces electronics and other stuff that are as good or even better than Japans, but because the made in China equates to cheaply made goods, people don't feel they have to spend alot for chinese products. In the other hand, the exact same product with the labe made in Japan would cause justification in the minds of many when it comes to forking over their arms and legs.

Dominican cigars are considered to be the best in the world (with a few high profile people and companies saying Dominican cigars are better than Cuban)! People pay big bucks for cigars with the Made in Dominican Republic label.

Think about the so called "Italian Gold". Little is known that Italy has no Gold mines, in fact much of their gold comes from guess where, DR! Of course, say Dominican gold and people won't pay as much, but say Italian gold and the wallets start to open up.

Its all in the power of a name. Once people value anything Dominican a bit more, things will become ever more expensive in the international market and thus, ever more profitable.

You are right Nal0whs,
People only appreciate something when it is very expensive and many people can't have. Good thing that Mendez was not a greedy man when he discovered it. If it was somebody else, they would probably be auctioning them to the highest bidders in a NY auction house.
