I would like to start learning Spanish, I have seen 2 audio sets that have very good reviews. Just wondering if anyone has used either of these and what they thought.
Thanks in advance.

My things on learning another language

a: get some basics, traveling guide sort of stuff
b: get your hands on some comics in the desired language and read them (the more the better)
c: look and listen as often as you can to the news in the language.
d: practice

Greetings

agreed..learn the basics..watch UniVision or listen to radio to get use to hearing spanish. i believe the hardest thing about learning another language is listening. different people, different dialects/slangs, etc.

I agree with all the above, but buy a good dictionary with a fairly extensive grammar section. Yes, you HAVE to learn grammar basics, like what a present and past participle is; direct and indirect objects. Also learn the verb conjugations. There are only 13 of them. Seems daunting, but the more you read and hear, they become natural. It was such a thrill the first time I understood the subjunctive in conversation (sepa for sabe). My friend, who now has a dominican wife, didnt know what she said until I explained the subjunctive. He rolled his eyes and grabbed his dictionary.
He though he could get by with only learning present, preterite and future.

Buena suerte

I think being around people who speak the language can be a great help! I watch Spanish TV and I honestly have learned quite a bit over the last few years. I have noticed I can understand a lot more for sure! Now I'm working on reading more, being able to write and of course speak better :) Always room for improvement there!
But funny thing when I'm in the DR I tend to speak a lot more compared to back home lol And I amaze myself as to how much I speak it must be someting in the DR air gotta love that place :)

Practice, practice, practice :)

?Hola!
There is a lot out there for learning Spanish. learnspanish.com is a very good web site. Pimsler International is excellent. It's not very cheap but it is a very effective method. (I've been learning French with it.) I am sure your local library is full of such materials.

Start out by setting small, obtainable goals. Don't reach for the stars, or you will get frustrated and give up. One such small goal could be how to ask for and provide personal information (i.e.: name, place of origin, phone number).

You can learn using themes: The house, the post office, the restaurant, etc.
Whatever your method of choice, try to incorporate all four skill necessary for language acquisition: Listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Total immersion is the best method, but that option is not always available.
Here to help you,
Norma

The best thing you can do is HIRE a tutor for a fewweeks to teach you the basics. You ought to be able to put a Ad in a cheap local newspaper for 20 bucks or less for a couple weeks, " I need a Spanish Tutor!" I f you live anywhere in civilization you should get multiple replys, call one an dgo meet them somewhere for an hour once or twice a week and then you will be able to study and learn on your own.

I enjoy listening to music. I will listen to Enrique Iglesias, La 5a Estacion, Shakira, Gloria Estefan or Celia Cruz. I'll download the song on my Ipod. Then I look for the lyrics online. I'll translate them and sing along. I learn the words, new phrases, and have fun while I'm doing it.

A funny aside-- be prepared to make lots of mistakes. I have make some priceless mistakes that I KNOW about-- I can't imagine the ones that I've made that people have been too polite to laugh in my face. I know I've done it. They are ALWAYS and I means ALWAYS sexual. It's never making a mistake by telling a woman who's unattractive that she's pretty ---oh no-- it's always something Priceless. It keeps it interesting--jajajaja
