Here is some info for Buying..

Here is some interesting info on the new taxes on automobiles:

You now pay 20% plus

Valor CIF (US$) Tasa Marginal al Exceso
For autos valued at 0 to 10,000 usd, 0% tax

10,001 to 12,000 usd, 15% tax

12,001 to 14,000 usd, 30% tax

14,001 to 20,000 usd, 45% tax

20,001 to 32,000 usd, 60% tax

32,001 usd and up, 80% tax

Plus 12% ITBIS TAX
Plus 1.5%

Plus, you can't bring a car that more than 5 years old.

How do you like them cookies!!
(This is info from Frederick's business site)

Re: Here is some info for Buying..

Hi: Thanks, I had seen that earlier. I have no intention of bringing a vehicle into the DR. I want to buy or preferably lease one from a dealer in Santo Domingo. Do they lease or do you have to buy new vehicles? Need some contact information so I can estimate costs. And do new-car dealers accept trade-ins?

Thanks

Apart from the fact that vehicles are more expensive than in Europe (+30%) and the States, the bank loans are hyper expensive
(28+ interest). Initial payment of minimum 10%+.
Leasing is for a far as I know only possible through the company you are working for and this even more expensive.
For instance, a vehicle of 625.000 RD$: +22.000 RD$ a month during 48 months or +26.000 RD$ a month during 36 month.
No initial payment required though. At the end of the leasing
you can buy the vehicle for more less 60.000 RD$.
Besides, the bank will ask about everything concerning the company (capital, income, etc...)
Make the calculation...
If some people have more info, they are welcome as also I am looking to purchase (lease...?) a vehicle.

James, this is the tax schedule for BUYING a automobile here. This has just changed this year and obviously is very bad news to perspective owners. Yes, new car dealers do take trade-ins but with the usual hit on the value.

Can anyone help me with some information on buying a vehicle in the US and , shipping it to the DR.What kind of taxes are we talking about and what about the shipping cost to the DR and , the taxes for removing the vehicle once it has reached the DR? What about transfering the title over to a Dominican person once it is shipped?
