The Camels of San Cristobal

So, according to the book, the 1867 paper bills were nicknamed "Camellas", because of how big they were. This was a reference to some camels brought into the country to be used at the San Cristobal mines. Due to the lack of proper care the camels eventually disappeared.

Decades later, the finding of huge bones from an unidentified animal was the topic of conversation among locals.

Some people claimed these were dinosaur bones, but one of the old timers of the area cleared things stating that this was just one of Bentura Baez's camels.

Yes, it was published by Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra in 1975. I read parts of it long ago. I'm currently reading it all.

Quite interesting! Local legends, language, racial traits, religious beliefs, expressions, rhymes, life of the typical campesino from specific regions, love and relationships, funerals, life in Santo Domingo, etc.

See DV8's link for info on how to get it. Mine belonged to my mom.
