What does everyone think of the area of El Cortecito in Bavaro, Punta Cana?

I have lived in the capital for the last couple of years, and am considering a move there for safety and lower cost of living.

Please advise.

PJT kindly asks, what do you mean by lower cost of living?

Consider, Cortecito is a compact community with plenty of basic amenities in a tourist zone. However, prices for these basic items, food, and services in this area is higher than the capital and there is less selection. If you desire a greater variety of commodites, need of services, and lower prices you go to Higuey some 45 kilometers distant. There is public transportation available but is more costly than in the capital. Having a car or moto available for your use is viewed by some as a necessary tool to survive in the zone. You are no more safe in the Cortecito than you are in the capital, there is crime.

A good attibute of the area there is electric power 24/7 provided by a private power company, CEPM. There is no having to deal with brownouts/blackouts and dubious billing practices. Line service is usually prompt in the event of interruptions.

It is recommended you visit the area for a week or two to experience the environment and then consider your desire.

Regards,
PJT

no lower cost of living in El Cortecito compared to the Capital.
the local name for Cortecito and surroundings is "SankieTown".
24/7 electricity is a norm in PC, yes, but expect much higher rates for that of course, the elec Bill for my 3 floors House in Germany is cheaper than the one I get here for my 2 Bedroom Appartment, and we do not use any A/C.
compraed to the shopping possibilities in the Capital I would estimate costs for groceries etc here in PC 25-50% higher than in st dgo.
a vehicle to come around is a must have.
the area is safe, yes,
but unless walking some Barrios by night I would not consider the Capital City unsafe neither. Bad Boys and Gals are found everywhere, including Punta Cana and El Cortecito.
what Budget are ya looking on to live in El Cortecito.
did you already decide on a sepcific appratment/house/residency?
bring some details and I will answer where I can, I live since over 15 years over here on the East, I rented myself at several places around El Cortecito before I moved to the better side, lol.
cheers
Mike
