Local street map of Santo Domingo

Does anyone know where I can get a (very local) street map of Santo Domingo....online or printed is fine? Preferably in English....but Spanish is ok too. I've started driving in the capital to learn my way around, and can easily navigate if I had a map. I've taken taxis in the past but sooner or later (now) I need to learn how get around on my own.

I'm not sure what you mean with a map in English (translated streetnames?), but this is a good online map: http://www.colonialzone-dr.com/stodgo_map-lenin.pdf
For printed maps, you can buy excellent locally produced maps by Mapas Gaar, in bookstores anywhere or touristy shops in the Zona Colonial

This exact map can be purchased at a small gift shop located near the Verizon call center on El Conde. The cost 200RD.

ha ha ha!...i thought i posted a snarky remark about that map yesterday.

I tried to save the GOOD pdf map as an eps file that i could manipulate in illustrator....to make it a bit more printer friendly....but alas..the security on it makes it unfriendly to illustrator. oh well!

I've asked that here before, and been told that there isn't one. Since I've never seen anything like that I'm inclined to believe it.

A person on DR1 created one handrawn on a street map, then posted the picture on some website. There was a link to it in one of the the fourms. At the time, I thought I would come back to it and download the picture of the map.

Months later when I needed the map to plan my trip. I could not find the original link or the fourm. i am 70% it was on DR1.
