You are wise in seeking professional help as hundreds of people both here and abroad have been skinned alive thru scams.
You can assist by learning all you can about prior sales of the builder. Remember... lawyers are not perfect and as much as you want a "great lawyer" he can make errors also. You really want to know about the ways the builder can hurt you.
Start on the internet on ALL matters concerning your builder.
