Looking for buddies for spearfising and freediving training in Sosua area
Have been doing the free diving off of playa Alicia for a few years now.. I go out with flippers and goggles, for about 45 minutes to a hour for the exercise..there is some structure straight out from the beach in deep water..what kind of fishing?
I am interested after this CV pandemic.

Takes a bit more equipment, floats and long guns but it's much more productive.
Other issue with near shore is poor viz except for a few months.

Good to see you are back posting. Interesting, in that, you have made a comeback once ljmesg was banned. Send my love, and warm regards to her.
Although I have been Diving since the early 80's ( PADI)... sadly I have only been diving in Boca Chica, and that was years ago , never the North Coast. Since I am getting back into better physical shape, and have shed over 50 # I may start diving the North Coast soon.
However it never even occurred to me to take up Spear Fishing anywhere in the DR.. Something just tells me that the Locals may view this as stealing from their Food source, and what I have seen these young guys spear , on Samana Peninsula for example.. Just way too small for me to even consider killing. Just Stringers full of small fish ....
Not my Idea of Sport .. to each his own though .. and please report back to us ,let us know how you made out .

Not back posting exactly.
Just read a little time to time.
Interested in blue water diving.
I checked with some of the local shops and they would take me out but made it clear they would not get in the water off shore.
Diving in the blue is different in that its 360 degrees and to do it safely requires two so you can watch each others back.
I think it is actually safer in that you keep the boat nearby and can exit the water quickly.
It does take some time to adjust psychologically to no bottom.
Definitely interested in connecting once the quarantine is over! Both for freediving and (eventually, when I get gear) spearing.
