Looking for unique things to do in Zona Colonial or outskirts...

I have been to SD several times ands always stay in El Conde to see my girlfriend ... but after being there 4x's ... I find it rather redundant.

I have walked el Conde, Malecon, the side streets and such ...

Is there anything anyone suggests that is out of the norm .. I am latino and don't mind venturing out.

I also saw this fort looking thing on my way from the airport... and it seemed cool. there seems to be a hotel in there and a university ... does anyone know what it is ??

There is an entire city to explore, 4 times to ZC, I'd have lost interest in ZC, my girlfriend,the DR and probably life by now. What is wrong with your girlfriend, doesn't seem like much fun if she hasn't shown you the city and surroundings after 4 visits.

Guagua, taxi? You can go anywhere in the city from anywhere in the city for less than RD200. It's not difficult.

Visit tripadvisor.com that's a start. You can take a day tour of Santo Domingo with an official tour guide. I arranged one with expidea.com a few years back.
You can walk to Malecon or take a taxi to one of the malls. Spend some time in another city or go to Constaza or Jarabacoa.

I find walking in the Zona Colonial spellbinding and very romantic. A night at the Hard Rock to listen to some live music, a night at El Hostal Nicolas de Ovando, I like to people watch. There are art galleries everywhere if that's your thing. The Cuesta Book stores or the old book stores in ZC. Go to church service in the oldest cathedral in the Americas. I dunno, that's it.

i really enjoy hopping on a guagua and heading to boca chica around 5:30pm. i hit the boat house for a really good happy hour at 6pm and then have a nice meal on the water before heading back around 8:30.
