Please do not call Delta. You may cause trouble for your Delta employee friend.
On a buddy pass you are a guest of the employee and a non revenue passenger.
Any question or transaction must go through the employee.

You are travelling fron Sydney, Australia or SDQ (Sto Domingo)?

Mirka, if by SYD you mean SDQ or STI I believe it's 1 piece checked and one carry-on to Dominican Rep. It's an embargoed destination, meaning the allotment is less than the two pieces checked availability of other destinations. This I got from a conversation last year with an employee who was upgraded/standby'd to a Business class seat on a non-rev ticket.
Availability is on stand by basis only, and stateside it's posted on the upgrade screen at all terminals, in DR I am guessing the gate agent will update you. Your friend/buddy would have more info by checking the Delta extranet page just for employees.

I had a "Buddy" who worked for US Air.
Flew with his "Buddy Passes from Boston to SD MANY times, and used them to go back to Boston as well.
The ONLY condition was to be in "Dress Pants, (No Jeans, or Shorts) and a dress shirt.
Same baggage restrictions as the paying passenger.
I hated when he retired!

My buddy uses a JetBlue buddy pass -- loves the savings........

until he couldn't get on two , count'em TWO flights on consecutive days and incurred 2 nights hotels, food, drink.

Not such a savings after that:cry::mad:

one of the days it was a pilot w/ a family of FIVE that took all the remaining seats...... at the very last minute.

5 seats left w/ 10 minutes to go ----- no fly!!!

I am 100% sure that the flowing is correct.
It's 2 bags free to SDQ if you're going through ATL.
The embargo to DR is only out of JFK.

my son travels with his girlfriend who used to be a flight attendant, so he used to go with buddy passes. There were several times they got blanked from flights. So many fewer flights these days... no empty seats, all flights are filled up.

If there is an embargo no additional bags are allowed. You can't even pay an overage fee. It will not be boarded.

yup, you cannot pay for extra bag even if you wanted to. 1 checked in bag and 1 carry-on incoming and outgoing from JFK to sdq and STI. 2 checked in bags from atl to sdq and 1 carry on. I do these trips on delta employee passes almost every month.
Listen to ccarabella.

Now if its SYD (sydney) to pheonix, AZ then good luck as syd flights are pretty full and you have to change plane in lax (los angeles). So good luck on both flights. you maybe allowed 2 suitcases on this international route but luggage would be the least of your problems as buddy passes are s4 seniority and you may not be able to get a seat.
Now a days, I have to use s2 to get on many flights.
AZB

P.S: flight capacity change by the hour so there is almost no sense in checking flight / seat availability days in advance because the flight seat availability can change the same day as you are waiting to get on board the flight .

If you have a Delta companion pass you can check 2 bags to STI plus your carry-on; however, returning you are technically only allowed 1 bag plus carry-on..I say technically because they will let you check it depending on the flight load. Buddy pass is a lower category so may be different rules....
