Just seeing if I can generate some short-term interest. Okay, we may or may not know that in recent years sports culture/media has devised different unscientific ways of predicting the outcome of sporting events, e.g., the use of animals to predict superbowl winners.

Let's see if we can predict the WBC winner, DR or PR, by expressing our preference for Mang? or Mofongo. To be fair, you have to have tried both, but this is not a requirement for expressing your opinion.

Which do you like best, Mang? or Mofongo?

despite three morning coffees the whole of your post, with the exception of the last sentence, looks suspiciously complicated to me. so i am going straight for the part i actually did comprehend. mangu vs mofongo? i kinda love both but i will have to go with mofongo because i only ever eat it in restaurants and it's a treat to me. mangu is more like a common daily food.

"Mofongo"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best eaten at the "King Of Mofongo" on the beach at Sosua.
De chicharron, with the garlic slapping your pallet, and the grease dripping off your elbow.
"Prsidente" in one hand, and a "Beach Bunny" on your lap!

Any self-respecting Dominican will tell you Mangu of course. Mofongo may not have had its origins in The DR, but we make it just as good as them Ricans. I know where you're going with this and hoping that the extra ingredients added to Mofongo will give it the edge over Mangu, but I like to think of Mangu as the more pure form of Platano Power...

Expect dozens (hundreds?) of Dominicans to be at the San Francisco ball park holding their platanos. Know one Dominican who lives in Rancho Cucamonga (between San Diego and LA) who will be traveling there with his platano.

Can you imagine if the game were being played in NYC, Philly or Boston, where there are sizable Dominican and Boricua communities?

USA Today explains how the platano power got into the picture...
"The Dominican Republic is hoping it can ride plantain power to the World Baseball Classic championship.
Owing at least part of their success to closer Fernando Rodney's mystical "rally plantain" that he keeps tucked in the side of his uniform pants while sitting in the bullpen, the Dominicans advanced to Tuesday night's title game by beating the Netherlands 4-1 in a WBC semifinal on Monday night at AT&T Park."
That explains it! AP also carried the photo of Fernando Rodney and his platano.
We shall see many platanos tonight.

Mofongo, any day. Made of platano verde. My friend owns a Mofongo restaurant where you have this Chipotle style of choosing the ingredients/sides of your Mofongo.

Wrong!!!! That doesn't really explain anything, this platano phenomenon started when a Venezuelan player told a Dominican reporter that the Platano could never beat the "Arepa Venezolana" as we all know Dominicans ended up winning that game, and things sort of snowballed from there on.
