International medical patients spend six to eight times more than traditional tourists. The average patient will spend up to US$7,500 for a stay in the Dominican Republic, according to findings of a recent study that focuses on ophthalmological and cosmetic surgeries and dental services, the most in demand.

Medical tourism is an all-around the year tourism, with peaks from December to May, says the Dominican Health Tourism Association (ADTS).

My friends sister ( a US Dominican) is in Santo Domingo today having a beast augmentation.
If women only knew how men loath fake boobs once they are un-haltered they would stay au natural.

I don't consider plastic surgery 'health tourism'
No. I am also wondering about this “health tourism” thing. And hardly something to boast about. And women who have these operations are definitely confused about it. I think we men look at them but not necessarily because we think it’s attractive.

I really haven't looked into it a lot, but I would guess that what they call health tourism is mostly elective surgery. If it's truly a matter of health, then insurance will cover it in the USA or the govt will take care of it in Europe or Canada. I just can't think of any reason to use the DR for truly health related issues.

There are a couple of bad apples here that I can't believe are still in business, but for the most part, Dominican Doctors enjoy extremely good reviews on websites that deal with that sort of thing.
