Re: Melia Tropical, Punta Cana
ND,
I returned last Friday from Punta Cana. I stayed at Barcelo Bavaro Beach Resort. On the last day of our visit we walked north on the beach up to what we eventually determined was Melio Tropical. It was about a mile north of BBBR. It is very new. In fact, I would say there may be parts that are not quite ready, since we saw workers bringing new furniture into units. I guess I would term the architectural style as a neo-classical. Sort of a Roman Garden feel. The landscaping was extensive, although not mature. The beach is nice as are all the beach resorts with plenty of mature palm trees at the edge of the beach. The pool area was very impressive - one of the largest I've seen.
There was hardly anyone there. I'd say we saw as many staff people as tourists. Of course, given it is new, this is not reason for alarm.
Overall, the appearance was impressive. If you can get a good deal I'd say go for it. Of course, we have no idea about the service or food. The one thing I find is most important for my Carib. vacations is service. Even if everything else is not the best, good service will make the difference. By the way, BBBR was the best in this regard that I have seen.
Hope you have a good time. The scenery is unbelievable.
