Merengue Festival

I was so bummed out when I found that the Merengue Festival is going on right now in Puerto Plata. Is anyone there now enjoying the festival? I had read on the DR1 travel info that the festival is in the first week of October. Imagine my surprise when my friend told me that its been going on all week!!! I would love to hear more about the festival from anyone who's been enjoying it, about who's there & all!!! Gracias! Helen

Merengue Festival takes place in October in Puerto Plata. In Santo Domingo it is held last week of July, first of August. If you like merengue music, recommend you come for the Presidente Latin Music Festival in the summer. This year it was held 3, 4, 5 June, dates of next year's festival to be announced.

Do you know the exact dates of the Merengue Festival at the end of July? I'm planning a trip to SD now, and would love to go to the festival.
